7 Quick Takes -- It's hot
So it's finally summertime. Upper 90's, 90% humidity -- hot, sticky, hot, sticky. And the schools have just started back. Weird.
Gareth and Katydid just finished their first week of co-op classes. There was some trepidation in the beginning, but as it turns out, they're both really enjoying themselves. It turns out they know some people, and the math teacher seems to be giving them a vacation. I have to confess that I'm not used to feeling like I'm the hard teacher.
Found on my phone...
My five year old was taking pictures. Just look at those wrists. (They're hiding in there somewhere.)
An interesting example of the difference between passive and active voice...
Me (to older child) : Would it be better to do weekly lesson plans or daily lists of what you need to do?
Older Child: Whenever you make lesson plans, they don't get followed.
Me: Let's revise that sentence. "Whenever you make lesson plans, I don't follow them."
Speaking of lesson planning... I'm slowly making progress at getting our new year together. (You know, after it's technically already started since the local schools are in session and co-op classes have already begun.) Books and supplies are trickling in and the new shelves are starting to fill up. Katydid has been helping me make the big book switch in our downstairs bookcases, since there isn't enough room to keep all of our books where we need them. So now our living room is decorated by ancient history instead of American, and I'm slowly starting to get a feel for how I want (or need) to do things this year.
One thing we're doing this year is geography with Michael Palin.
Probably more for me than for Katydid.
I had an epiphany the other day. The reason I always have a problem keeping up with the summer garden is that it's also homeschool -reorganization-and-planning season. Really hard to keep up with the cucumbers and move half of your books between floors every year. But don't ask me why it's taken me so long to figure this out. Anyway, it's helping me to go a little easier on myself, although it hasn't really phased the cucumbers.
